Botafogo fans confront squad at training base before Flamengo derby | OneFootball

According to Coluna Do Fla, members of the Fúria Jovem went to CT Espaço Lonier on Thursday 12 March to demand answers from Botafogo’s players and board ahead of Saturday’s derby with Flamengo.

Botafogo’s 2026 troubles began with elimination to Flamengo in the Campeonato Carioca quarter-finals. That sent them into the Taça Rio, which they won last Saturday, 7 March, against Bangu.

On Tuesday 10 March, they were knocked out of the pre-Libertadores by Barcelona SC (EQU) at Nilton Santos, losing 2-1 on aggregate. As a result, they will compete in the Sudamericana in 2026.

The visiting group said they had been hearing rumours while the club stayed silent, asked whether anything was lacking for the squad, and labelled Tuesday’s display shameful, adding it felt worse for supporters.

Flamengo, meanwhile, head into the derby in good shape. Leonardo Jardim’s side won the Carioca on Sunday 8 March after beating Fluminense on penalties, and they defeated Cruzeiro 2-0 in the fifth round of the Brasileirão.

Flamengo visit Botafogo on Saturday 14 March in the sixth round of the Campeonato Brasileiro, with kick-off at 20:30 Brasília time at Estádio Nilton Santos.
