Botafogo reject Palmeiras bid for Danilo as midfielder stays for now | OneFootball

Botafogo have rejected Palmeiras’ €28 million bid for Danilo, structured with a fixed fee and add-ons, paid over three years. The midfielder remains at the club and is in the squad to face Vitória on Thursday.

A lengthy Thursday morning meeting between the player’s representatives and the Rio club confirmed he remains, for now, according to Globo.com.

People involved in talks said Palmeiras were open to a €30 million counter, but Botafogo gave no such indication. The board’s stance is to sell only for €35-40 million, preferably to a European side.

Zenit of Russia have signalled interest with figures similar to Palmeiras. That does not appeal to the player, and was linked to acceptance of a Recuperação Judicial plan, with an 80% debt discount and payment over five years.

Danilo has targeted a move where he can compete for trophies and stay on Carlo Ancelotti’s radar for the 2030 World Cup. A return to Palmeiras appealed, given he came through there and the club lead the Brasileirão while still in the Libertadores and Copa do Brasil.

Botafogo have hardened their stance on selling to a domestic rival, a position reinforced by incoming management company GDA. Talks are led by Léo Coelho and Deive Bandeira, with Eduardo Iglesias holding final say, while club president João Paulo Magalhães Lins opposed the sale. The Nilton Santos fixture kicks off at 19:30 Brasília time in round four, and if he plays Danilo will reach 13 games and be ineligible for another club in the league.
