Bouna Sarr has extended his stay at Metz for two more seasons, with an option for a third year. The club said in a statement on Monday that the deal runs to 30 June 2028.

The 34-year-old returned to his boyhood side in early February after months training with the squad, having re-signed in January. He featured 12 times in Ligue 1 after his comeback and has 13 Senegal caps.

Sarr resumed work with Metz in November after 818 days without a competitive match, with a signing possible if a right side player departed. His versatility at full-back, wing-back and winger, and his leadership, proved valuable.

He said he is proud to continue with his formative club and sees it as an honour, adding he intends to give everything to reach the target of immediate promotion. He also noted that an early agreement should help him build a full pre-season as collective training has already restarted.

President Bernard Serin had made the extension one of this summer’s priorities after Sarr’s refreshing impact in a young dressing room during a faltering campaign. The armband could return to him in the coming weeks after he captained the final four Ligue 1 matches. New coach Luc Holtz, from Luxembourg, can draw on his experience, while the futures of Habib Diallo and Gauthier Hein are uncertain and Benjamin Stambouli’s position is unresolved.
