Continues his excellent start to the season, a fourth clean sheet in five Premier League games.

Commanded his penalty area, swept behind his defence when needed, distribution and clearances good, dealt with the crosses, then made the two saves he needed to. The second of those wasn’t easy, as the (very softly given) free-kick right on the edge of the box was low and around the wall.

Malick Thiaw – 7

Confirmed the promise of his sub appearances, looked assured and part of a back three that allowed Bournemouth minimal attacking threat. Looks yet another very good Eddie Howe signing and it is great to now have a group of very good central defenders, with Fabian Schar’s absence not so significant.

Sven Botman – 7

We all know how good he is and just a case of staying fully fit and available. Having a number of options now in the middle of the defence, that should hopefully allow Eddie Howe to do his best to look after Botman and ensure (as much as is possible) that the Dutch defender stays available.

Dan Burn – 7.5

Unbelievably consistent. His levels very rarely, if ever, drop to any noticeable degree. Also carried the ball forward a number of times. With better delivery on corners/set-pieces and a bit of added luck on the long throws now coming in, hopefully Burn and the other big lads can soon start to add goals as well.

Tino Livramento – 6.5

Another very consistent performer for United and this time as a right wing-back. Semenyo swapped between the wings and both NUFC wing-backs did well against him.

Lewis Hall 6.5

A very decent return to the starting eleven. As well as handling Semenyo, the England left-back reminded us of his quality taking the ball up the pitch.

Sandro Tonali – 7

Was the one who did everything he could to get United going. A very good all round performance but should have hit the target, when a good Newcastle passing move saw him with time to hit the ball from the edge of the box but the shot went over the bar.

Lewis Miley – 6

Did the simple things well and had a good disciplined display that helped protect the United defence. The 19 year is still developing in the right direction and easy for some to choose to forget how young and relatively inexperienced he is.

Jacob Murphy – 6

Was part of a few decent passing moves but didn’t contribute enough, as Nick Woltemade was starved of decent service. An ok display for Murphy but need more from the wings in games like this.

Nick Woltemade – 6.5

Feeding on scraps but showed some nice touches once again and a couple of positive turns and runs with the ball, dribbling into the box in one stand out run but couldn’t find a teammate. Those teammates need to get used to their new striker and feed the ball into his feet as much as possible. The referee appeared on a quest to not give free-kicks for challenges on the big striker and no excuse for the on the pitch referee and the VAR, when refusing to give a penalty after Woltemade was clearly pulled back by his shirt in the box.

Joe Willock – 5

I hate to see fans claiming players aren’t trying, the ultimate sin as a player, if true. I don’t think a case of Willock not trying, I think instead a case of him losing his spark.

I remember he found that spark again in a few matches last season, Forest and Chelsea in the Carabao Cup spring to mind. However, an ongoing problem where most times he now struggles to make any real impact in games. He may well get another chance against Bradford on Wednesday night and needs to take it.

Thought he did ok when he came on.

Almost won it for Newcastle United when a clever direct dribble took him past a couple of defenders and deep in the box a home player just got his toe to the ball, when the Bournemouth player could well have given away a penalty.

Anthony Elanga – 5.5

Did ok and plenty of energy but on a day dominated by defenders it was difficult to make much impact.

Will Osula – N/A (On too late to rate)

Not sure if he touched the ball, a bit of a thankless task coming on late with little action in forward areas.

His big chance comes against Bradford in the cup on Wednesday. Hopefully his frustrations with lack of game time will see him primed to impress against lower league opposition.

Jamaal Lascelles – N/A (On too late to rate)

A rare first team appearance off the bench and I remember him making one decent intervention. Another who could well get a rare start on Wednesday.
