Bournemouth produced a ruthless second-half turnaround to come from behind and beat ten-man Everton 2-1 at Hill Dickinson Stadium
Everton began with greater urgency, looking determined to make home advantage count after a mixed start to life away from Goodison Park.
Their early pressure was rewarded when Iliman Ndiaye converted from the penalty spot after Rayan brought down Jarrad Branthwaite with a clumsy challenge inside the area.
The hosts could have strengthened their grip before the interval, but Thierno Barry fired wide from close range and later saw another effort blocked on the goal-line.
Bournemouth struggled to impose themselves for long spells in the first half and reached the break fortunate to be only a goal down.
The visitors emerged with far greater purpose after the restart and began to stretch Everton with quicker ball movement and more direct running.
That improvement was rewarded just after the hour when Rayan atoned for conceding the penalty by powering home a header at the back post from Adrien Truffert’s cross.
The equaliser stunned Everton and triggered a collapse from which they never recovered.
Less than four minutes later, Bournemouth completed the turnaround as James Hill nodded a free-kick across goal for Amine Adli to finish from close range.
Everton’s evening unravelled completely soon after when Jake O’Brien was sent off for denying Adli a clear goalscoring opportunity as the last defender.
The hosts struggled to regain any composure as Bournemouth controlled the game with confidence.
Everton pushed forward in search of a response, but their efforts lacked conviction in the final third.
Bournemouth remained disciplined at the back and limited their opponents to speculative efforts as the clock ran down.
The win lifted Andoni Iraola’s side further clear of the bottom half and underlined their growing resilience after a difficult spell earlier in the season.
Rayan continued his impressive start in English football, scoring for a second consecutive league game and responding positively after a costly first-half mistake.
The defeat extended Everton’s poor home run and highlighted familiar issues of missed chances and defensive vulnerability.
