Brahim Diaz missed a last-minute penalty that could have sealed the AFCON title for Morocco against Senegal, his attempted panenka saved by Édouard Mendy to keep it 0-0 and send the final to extra time.

According to L'Équipe, the Real Madrid player chipped softly from the spot and Mendy held it without alarm.

The chaotic climax followed a sequence in which Senegal had a goal disallowed only minutes earlier.

The spot-kick was then awarded for a foul by El-Hadji Malick Diouf, a light shirt pull on Diaz.

Senegal’s players protested, judging the call harsh, with several briefly leaving the pitch before returning.

The stoppage lasted around 15 minutes before the penalty was finally taken.
