The start of the World Cup 2026 has not gone exactly as most FC Barcelona fans would have wished for. Spain, the team with the heaviest representation of Blaugrana players, was able to get only a draw in their first game.
Meanwhile, three of the Catalan side’s players, Ronald Araujo, Frenkie de Jong, and Raphinha, have already faced injury concerns since joining their national sides. In fact, the Uruguayan has not even been able to play in the World Cup, and might also not be able to play till the start of the knock-out rounds.
On the other hand, Raphinha is now another player whose hopes of leading his Brazil side to World Cup glory can be jeopardized, after he suffered an injury in the second group stage game against Haiti. The winger was subbed out on the 40th minute, and it still remains to be seen whether he would return in time before the end of the competition for his national side.
In this regard, Diario AS notes that the CBF has published a medical statement on the player, which goes as follows:
“The player Raphinha underwent imaging tests this Saturday, which confirmed a muscle injury in the back of his right thigh. The player will follow an intensive treatment program, supervised by the Brazilian National Team’s medical staff, to ensure his recovery and return to action as soon as possible.”
The assessment undertaken by the head of the Brazilian team’s medical department, Dr. Rodrigo Lasmar, holds that this is a relapse of the recent muscle injury that winger was suffering from. Thus, the forward is set to miss the upcoming game against Scotland at the very minimum, but is still expected to be available for the Round of 16.
This would also be a concerning situation for Barcelona, as the Catalan club was also not too happy when Raphinha suffered an injury while playing a friendly with Brazil a few weeks ago. Still, they are expecting him to return in good shape for the start of the preseason training, after the World Cup and his vacations.
