In the last few weeks, there has been increasing speculation surrounding the future of Raphinha at Barcelona. The 29-year-old is being courted by Saudi Pro League clubs, and while his representatives have moved to deny any talk of a possible move this summer, the reports are not easing up.

Raphinha has long been a target for Saudi Arabia, but until up now, the interest has largely been kept at arm’s length. Barcelona are very hopeful that he will continue at the Spotify Camp Nou for at least one more season, but that may not be the case.

According to former Brazilian player Marcos Andra Batista Santos, better known as Vampeta, Raphinha wants to leave Barcelona this summer. Specifically, the 2022 World Cup-winning midfielder has claimed on Red Cast (via Sport) that personal problems are the driving force behind a desire to join Saudi Pro League side Al Hilal.

“Raphinha is dealing with a serious family problem, financial too. He is praying to go to Al Hilal. He is facing this difficulty. It’s a serious financial problem for the family and for him. He is counting on this move to Al Hilal to turn things around.”

Should Barcelona let Raphinha go this summer?

At this stage, these claims are yet to be clarified, but what’s clear is that the links between Raphinha and Saudi Arabia are not going away. Barcelona may not want to part ways with the Brazilian winger, but if they receive a lucrative offer, it could be in their best interest to take it – especially if his injury problems keep recurring, as they have over the last 9-10 months.

It must also be remembered that Barcelona have already signed Anthony Gordon, and on paper, he would be a very suitable replacement for Raphinha. The money raised from a sale would also be put towards the club’s pursuit of a new striker, which is currently their main priority in the transfer market.
