Mamelodi Sundowns have pulled off a stunning coup by signing Monnapule Saleng from Betway Premiership rivals, Orlando Pirates.

The 27-year-old attacker spent the first half of the season on loan at top-flight newcomers Orbit College, making waves with his performances.

Saleng had found himself out of favour at the Bucs last season, with his final appearance for Pirates coming in December 2024 during the CAF Champions League clash against Egypt’s Al Ahly.

There were rumours of a fallout between Saleng and the Pirates management over contract terms, but his agent, Karabo Mathang Tshabuse, has dismissed those reports.

Since joining the Soweto giants in the 2021/22 campaign from the now-defunct Free State Stars, Saleng racked up 25 goals and 17 assists in 70 matches across all competitions for the Pirates.

He also lifted five trophies with the Sea Robbers, including three MTN8 crowns and two Nedbank Cup titles.

During his short stint at Orbit, Saleng chipped in with two goals and three assists in 12 games across all competitions this season.

All eyes will now be on the left-footed forward as he embarks on a new chapter with reigning champions Sundowns.
