Manchester United are making significant progress in their attempts to land Bryan Mbeumo after tabling an improved offer.
After securing the services of Matheus Cunha, INEOS immediately turned their attention towards the Brentford winger, identifying him as the ideal partner for the Brazilian in the two attacking-midfielder roles behind the lone striker in Ruben Amorim’s 3-4-2-1 system.
Mbeumo is coming off a sensational Premier League campaign that saw him score 20 goals, including some absolute screamers.
Therefore, Brentford aren’t willing to part ways with the Cameroonian star unless they were to receive an offer they deem worthy of the player’s exceptional exploits. The Bees have already rejected Man Utd’s opening bid of £45m plus £10m, considering it too low.
Brentford’s asking price is believed to be in the region of £70 million, but earlier this month, Fabrizio Romano had envisioned the two clubs reaching a compromise worth £60-65 million.

If the Italian’s estimations are correct, then United could be on the cusp of striking an agreement with their Premier League counterparts.
According to transfer market experts Rudi Galetti and Valentin Furlan, a meeting took place between Man Utd and Brentford on Thursday. And while the two clubs haven’t been able to reach an agreement, the negotiations are certainly advancing.
Moreover, British journalist Duncan Castles reveals that the Red Devils have offered a package north of £60 million.
Hence, it remains to be seen whether this offer will be approved by Brentford or if they will ask for an additional adjustment.
In any case, it appears that Man Utd are well and truly the ultimate frontrunners in the race for Mbeumo, despite what earlier reports had suggested regarding a reunion with Thomas Frank at Tottenham.
Although the new Spurs boss has recently heaped praise on his former pupil, hailing him as a ‘fantastic’ player, the Cameroonian had long identified Carrington as his most desired destination.
