Bremen chief reveals Niclas Füllkrug "expressed interest in coming back" in winter | OneFootball

Ex-Borussia Dortmund striker Niclas Füllkrug supposedly considered a return to Werder Bremen in winter, according to Sport BILD. 

“Niclas identifies completely with the club and had expressed interest in coming back himself,” Klaus Filbry, CEO, told Sport BILD.

"The deal was also financially out of reach for Werder. Therefore, we looked into it. However, there was then the opportunity to move to AC Milan.

“It's a top club where he also plays internationally and where his chances of a possible World Cup appearance would increase,” the Werder chief added.

At that time, Füllkrug was still playing for West Ham United; but the striker ultimately choose to go on loan at AC Milan.

His stint with the Rossoneri has been disappointing so far, and the five to ten million euro purchase option will therefore most likely not be exercised.

“I don't think the [financial] circumstances will change in the summer, even though I would of course like to see him back in a Werder Bremen shirt,” Filbry explained.
