Brenner arrived in Rio de Janeiro on Friday morning to undergo a medical and sign for Vasco on a deal until the end of 2029, following a move from Udinese. The 26-year-old spoke at Tom Jobim International Airport about his game and a phone call from Fernando Diniz.
According to Globo.com, Vasco will pay five million euros, around R$ 31 million, to Udinese in instalments over about three years. He will reunite with Diniz, having worked under him at Fluminense and São Paulo.
After leaving São Paulo for abroad, Brenner joined FC Cincinnati, then was sold to Udinese, later returning to the American club on loan late last year. His most recent Cincinnati spell brought 10 appearances, six goals and one assist.
He joked that Diniz’s call left little room to refuse, saying the coach’s influence was decisive and that he and his family admire him. Brenner added that returning to Brazil makes him happy and that he hopes Diniz can draw the best from his football.
Vasco and Diniz had been seeking a more mobile striker for their attack, and Brenner fits that profile. He described himself as a team player who keeps moving, likes to finish and also drops in to link play, and he thanked supporters for their backing online.
Vasco have four points from three games, sitting fourth in Campeonato Carioca Group A, with the top four in each group reaching the quarter-finals. They face Boavista on Sunday at 20:30 in Bacaxá.
