Brentford have completed the signing of highly-rated Austrian defender Jannik Schuster from Red Bull Salzburg on a long-term deal.
The 19-year-old centre-back has signed a contract until 2031, with the club holding the option of an additional year. Brentford are believed to have agreed a fee worth around £17.2 million for the Austria Under-21 international.
Schuster arrives in west London after breaking into Salzburg’s first team this season, making 29 appearances across all competitions and gaining valuable European experience in both Champions League qualifying and the Europa League.
Bees boss Keith Andrews praised the teenager following the announcement, describing him as a player with “a lot of potential”.
The west London club are wasting little time ahead of the summer transfer window as they look to strengthen for next season, with hopes of securing European football still alive. Andrews’ side remain in the hunt for a top-seven Premier League finish heading into the final two matches of the campaign.
