Brian Brobbey’s fifth Premier League goal of the season came in Saturday’s defeat at West Ham United, yet it also put him top of Sunderland’s scoring chart this campaign.

According to Sunderland Echo, the Dutch forward moved ahead of Wilson Isidor on four, though he is still far from the club’s leading Premier League marksmen.

Top Premier League scorers: Kevin Phillips, 61 (139 apps), Jermain Defoe, 34 (87 apps), Darren Bent, 32 (58 apps), Niall Quinn, 29 (129 apps), Kenwyne Jones, 26 (94 apps).

Then Steven Fletcher, 23 (94 apps), Adam Johnson, 19 (122 apps), Stephane Sessegnon, 17 (87 apps), Kieran Richardson, 14 (134 apps), and Fabio Borini, 14 (82 apps).

Phillips is 27 clear of any other player and won the Golden Boot in 1999/00 with 30 goals, the club’s first top-flight leading scorer since 1950 and only their fourth to reach 30. He followed up with 14, 11 and six across the next three seasons.

Defoe was hugely popular, his goals central to survival in 2015/16, and he still hit 14 the following year despite relegation. Bent was clinical, scoring 32 in 58 league games before leaving for Aston Villa after 18 months.

Among the current squad, Brobbey is Sunderland’s leading Premier League scorer, but he has plenty to do to reach the top 10.
