Brian Sorensen compares Everton with London City Lionesses

Everton head coach Brian Sorensen has compared their situation at the start of the Women’s Super League to Friday’s opponents the London City Lionesses.

The Toffees signed nine players during the summer transfer window, while their opponents made 17 signings.

Sorensen praised the Lionesses’ squad and said that Everton are in the ‘same boat’ as Jocelyn Precheur’s side.

He said: “They [London City Lionesses] have so many good players that they can switch the game about.

“We have been more talking about what we can do. It is a new home. We are really happy to be there and we love it and we really want to perform there for the fans. We are focused on ourselves and making sure that we are ready.

”They have quality players, there is no doubt about that, we are a bit in the same boat with nine new signings and we have to do that to make the new era and the team much younger.

“We know that will take a little bit of time to click 100%. We are two games in, it is one win and one loss.”

Everton started with an emphatic 4-1 victory over Liverpool, before suffering a 2-0 defeat to Tottenham. The London City Lionesses couldn’t have had a much more difficult start, with a 4-1 loss to Arsenal followed by a 5-1 thrashing by Manchester United.

Sorensen said: “The score line doesn’t 100% reflect it, if you watch the game back. They could’ve scored more. This is a very hard league and you need to have that time to gel as a team. That’s the journey that they are on right now, a little similar to us.”
