Brighton & Hove Albion ended their six-match Premier League drought in style, beating Brentford 2-0 at the Gtech Community Stadium.
The Seagulls had not scored in the league since the end of January but looked sharper from the outset and fully merited their lead by the interval.
After early warning signs - with Jack Hinshelwood and Kaoru Mitoma both going close - the breakthrough arrived in spectacular fashion. Ferdi Kadioglu thundered a long-range effort against the crossbar, and Diego Gomez reacted quickest to tuck away the rebound with calm assurance.
Brighton doubled their advantage before the break thanks to a defensive lapse. Nathan Collins, freshly introduced after an injury to Aaron Hickey, failed to deal with a low cross, allowing Danny Welbeck the simplest of finishes from close range.
Brentford threatened sporadically, but lacked their usual spark. Igor Thiago and Vitaly Janelt both missed the target as the hosts struggled to impose themselves.
It was also a landmark afternoon for James Milner, whose 654th Premier League appearance saw him move clear of Gareth Barry at the top of the all-time list.
The win lifts Brighton further away from trouble, while Brentford’s hopes of pushing into the European places suffered a setback.
