Brighton & Hove Albion host Liverpool in the Premier League at Amex Stadium on Saturday’s lunchtime kickoff.
Liverpool head into this clash aiming to secure their first league double over Brighton since the 2019/20 campaign, after a 2-0 triumph at Anfield in December’s reverse fixture.
The Seagulls responded to their narrow 1-0 loss against Arsenal by edging Sunderland 1-0 in their most recent Premier League outing.
The decisive moment came just before the hour mark when Yankuba Minteh scored the only goal, which proved enough to seal all three points.
The win lifted Fabian Hurzeler’s side to 40 points, leapfrogging the Black Cats into 12th place in the Premier League standings.
Brighton are just five points off the top seven, and with eight games remaining, the Seagulls will push for a place in Europe.
The Seagulls have enjoyed improved home form against Liverpool of late, winning two of their last three league meetings at the Amex Stadium (D1), including a thrilling 3-2 victory in this fixture last season, having previously managed just one win in their first 13 encounters with the Reds.
Liverpool bounced back from a one-goal first-leg deficit in emphatic fashion, thrashing Galatasaray 4-0 at Anfield in Wednesday’s Champions League last-16 second leg.
Dominik Szoboszlai opened the scoring early on before Mohamed Salah missed a glorious opportunity to double the Reds’ lead from the penalty spot on the stroke of halftime.
Hugo Ekitike and Ryan Gravenberch completed the rout in the second half to set a quarterfinal clash with Paris Saint-Germain.
In their race for Champions League qualification, the Reds were left frustrated following a 1-1 draw with relegation-threatened Tottenham Hotspur last weekend.
Liverpool will be eager to see off Brighton to strengthen their top-four bid, having already defeated the Seagulls twice this season with a combined score of 5-0, including a 3-0 victory in the FA Cup fifth round.
Long-term absentees Adam Webster and Stefanos Tzimas are sidelined for the hosts, while Carlos Baleba and Kaoru Mitoma will be assessed ahead of kickoff.
Liverpool will be without Alexander Isak, Giovanni Leoni, Conor Bradley and Wataru Endo due to injuries.
Brighton & Hove Albion (4-3-3): Verbruggen, Wieffer, Dunk, Van Hecke, Kadioglu, Ayari, Baleba, Gomez, Gross, Minteh, Welbeck.
Liverpool (4-2-3-1): Alisson, Frimpong, Konate, Van Dijk, Robertson, Mac Allister, Gravenberch, Salah, Szoboszlai, Wirtz, Ekitike.
Prediction: Brighton & Hove Albion 1-2 Liverpool.
