Liverpool are working on a massive deal and Andoni Iraola has confirmed it. Can they get it over the line?

Andoni Iraola doesn't yet know what his squad will look like when his debut campaign kicks off at Liverpool. There have been several key departures, after all, and just the one incoming.

Victor Munoz has signed from Osasuna and should play a solid role at Liverpool this season. He's not, however, enough to get the attacking back on track - particularly after Mohamed Salah left the club.

That’s something Iraola himself has confirmed. He knows that Liverpool need more and they’re working on it.

“We need someone in that area but probably will have different skills [than Mo Salah]”, he told Stan Sport FC, as relayed by Fabrizio Romano.

“He can maybe complement the team in another way and we are working on it definitely!”.

That’s exactly what we wanted to hear. Replacing Salah like-for-like is essentially impossible, especially with the market the way that it is.

Yan Diomande was the primary target heading into the summer but that the Ivorian rejected Liverpool. They now need to pivot - or give up.

And they won’t be doing the latter. Exactly who the Reds move for is completely unclear at this stage but there are plenty of young stars out there who could make an impact and develop into something special.

We’re hoping, above all, that Ibrahim Mbaye is the one Liverpool move for - an 18-year-old prodigy who wants to leave Paris Saint-Germain this summer. But we’ll just have to wait and see.

Iraola’s confirmation that a new winger is on the way is certainly enough for now. Let’s see what Liverpool cook up.
