Looking at these Premier League fixtures in this round of matches.
Seeing the other games from a Newcastle United perspective.
Eddie Howe having got that massive win at West Ham on Monday night.
Newcastle United of course with other commitments (Wembley!) this weekend.
So whilst we are focussing on other matters, there were/are some potentially huge Premier League fixtures that could help or hinder the NUFC cause when it comes to potential Champions League qualification.
Eight Premier League matches scheduled for this weekend and seven of Newcastle United’s Champions League qualification rivals having matches to play ahead of the international break.
Here are the Premier League results from Saturday:
Saturday 15 March
Everton 1 West Ham 1
Ipswich 2 Forest 4
Man City 2 Brighton 2
Southampton 1 Wolves 2
Bournemouth 1 Brentford 2
A brilliant Premier League weekend for Newcastle United so far.
Forest predictably beating a doomed Ipswich side.
However, other than that pretty perfect.
Man City led twice but Brighton equalised both times, whilst Brentford bounced back from gifting an own goal and won at Bournemouth.
This is how the table looks on Sunday morning (16 March 2025) after Saturday’s Premier League fixtures:
I think Forest now looking very good for top five and Champions League football, along with Liverpool and Arsenal.
So then I think for the other two CL spots, up to seven clubs fighting it out.
Yesterday’s results leave Newcastle ahead of Brighton on goal difference, three points ahead of Bournemouth, whilst Man City only a point ahead of NUFC. Eddie Howe’s side now with a game in hand on all three and their destiny in their own hands now when it comes to whether finishing top five.
Villa don’t play this weekend but Newcastle a game in hand on them and only a point behind Emery’s team.
Three more Premier League matches today…
Sunday 16 March
Arsenal v Chelsea (1.30pm)
Fulham v Spurs (1.30pm)
Leicester v Man U (7pm)
Arsenal beating Chelsea and Spurs preventing a Fulham win, would perfectly follow up yesterday.
Here’s hoping for those results AND of course the most important of all today, at Wembley.
