Bradley Barcola is edging closer to a move to Liverpool.
Let's be honest, we all know the Reds are not targeting the Frenchman or Yan Diomande. It's not either-or. The truth is that Liverpool would ideally want both.
After all, why would a player in Diomande, who prefers to play as a right-winger, have an alternative in Barcola, who prefers to play on the left-wing?
It just doesn't make sense. Diomande is clearly the top target to replace Mo Salah. As for Barcola, he is the target to replace Cody Gakpo.
It's becoming clearer and clearer that Liverpool's plans in an ideal world will be that this summer. Just as they wanted Hugo Ekitike and Alexander Isak last summer.
Richard Hughes is clearly open to selling Gakpo, and there is now genuine interest in the Dutch winger with Spurs emerging as a serious contender for his signature.
Just as last summer Darwin Nunez had to be moved out so both Isak and Ekitike could come in, it's obvious Gakpo has to leave first, which is why this Barcola deal could drag on.
But it looks like it's edging closer and it looks like we could have the same end-result as we did with Isak last summer.
Barcola is clearly the trickiest deal of the summer for Liverpool. Paris Saint Germain will be reluctant to sell. They have such a strong squad and a really good balance.
That is why they are back-to-back Champions League winners. However, Barcola has made it clear he does not intend to extend his contract with the club.
It's quite obvious therefore that by keeping him this summer they risk depreciating an asset who could be sold for a lot of money and provide them with the financial means to go out and sign a big marquee player like Michael Olise.
Liverpool are right now prioritising a move for Diomande, which is tricky as well. But that makes sense because first and foremost they need a Mo Salah replacement and the Ivorian is the perfect fit for that role given he plays as a right-winger and he has been one of the most impactful right-wingers in Europe over the last 12 months.
The Diomande deal is not one Liverpool want to drag out for a long time. It's a saga they want to complete quite quickly. The move makes for all parties. Diomande is open to a switch, RB Leipzig are always open to a sale for the right price and well Liverpool, they just desperately need a right-winger.
It's only once that deal for Diomande is wrapped up can Liverpool then think about how to bolster the left-wing. Gakpo has been a great servant but he may not be the most ideal fit for the way Liverpool want to play under Andoni Iraola.
Barcola on the other hand very much is. He is fast, and he loves to run in behind defences. He'll be able to stretch defensive lines and the prospect of Diomande on one wing and Barcola on the other with Rio Ngumoha and Victor Munoz coming off the bench is simply mouth-watering.
It's the kind of line-up that would make Liverpool one of the most exciting attacking teams in Europe once again.
Obviously, there's still a lot of work to be done in order to accomplish this plan. However, it looks like the Barcola dream is moving in the right direction.
Le10Sport in France have some brilliant news. They claim Barcola is 'receptive' to Liverpool's interest and having the prospect of being given a major role after Salah's departure massively appeals to him.
The report claims Barcola could end-up even requesting a transfer this summer, which implies that he is very much wanting to move on from Paris.
And that puts Barcola one step closer to Anfield. When you have a player wanting to leave, even a club like PSG can't do much. The only option then is to sell them.
