Bristol City ‘close to appointing’ ex-Leeds boss Michael Skubala after Lincoln promotion | OneFootball

According to The Telegraph, Bristol City are close to appointing Michael Skubala as head coach, with negotiations ongoing over a three-year deal.

The 43-year-old is set to leave Lincoln City only weeks after steering a 103-point League One title and ending a 65-year wait for Championship football. BBC Sport has reported that he recently signed new terms at Lincoln that included a release clause worth one million pounds.

City had considered Bournemouth assistant Tommy Elphick, who chose to remain on the south coast under new coach Marco Rose.

Skubala’s rise followed a brief stint as Leeds United’s interim in 2022/23, replacing Jesse Marsch. He oversaw a 2-2 draw at Manchester United, then defeats to United and Everton.

Before that he led Leeds’ Under-21s, helping develop Archie Gray, Max Dean and Darko Gyabi, and later served as first-team assistant before departing in 2023 to pursue management.

If appointed, he would succeed Roy Hodgson, who returned to Ashton Gate in an interim capacity to finish the season. The Robins ended 12th in the Championship, 11 points shy of the play-offs, and will aim for a top-six push.
