Michael Skubala is in line for the Bristol City job, with The Telegraph reporting the club are close to appointing the Lincoln City head coach on a three-year deal, with negotiations ongoing weeks after he led Lincoln to promotion.

BBC Sport recently said Skubala had been informed he was no longer a candidate, then signed a new Lincoln contract containing a £1million release clause. The latest development points to a change of direction at Ashton Gate.

Skubala, 43, steered Lincoln to a 103-point League One title in 2025/26, sealing a first Championship return in 65 years. He was named the League Managers’ Association League One manager of the season.

His first senior dugout role came as Leeds United’s interim boss in 2022/23, replacing Jesse Marsch. He oversaw a 2-2 draw at Manchester United, then defeats to the same opponents and Everton.

Bristol City had also considered Bournemouth assistant Tommy Elphick but he opted to remain on the south coast under new coach Marco Rose. If a deal is agreed, Skubala would replace interim Roy Hodgson after the Robins finished 12th, 11 points off the play-offs.

Formerly Leeds’ Under-21s coach, Skubala helped develop Archie Gray, Max Dean and Darko Gyabi before moving on later in 2023 to pursue first-team management.
