Bristol City have seen another bid for Leyton Orient's Dom Ballard rejected as Lorent Tolaj's move edges closer to completion

Bristol City's summer spree is in full swing, as the Robins enter a fresh era under new boss Michael Skubala, as their pursuit of a League One star continues to rumble on.

Since the season ended, things at Bristol City haven't exactly quietened down.

The appointment of James Ellis as sporting director coincided with the subsequent appointment of Lincoln City's Skubala as the club's new head coach, replacing Roy Hodgson at the helm, and they have been especially busy in the transfer window.

Each of Sam Tickle, Gibson Yah, Sam Greenwood, Jed Wallace, Lisav Eissat, and Bradley Collins has all signed on the dotted line to take their total additions thus far up to six, but that looks to turn into seven very soon with the impending £4 million addition of Plymouth Argyle forward Lorent Tolaj.

Tolaj will offer competition up top with Emil Riis at Ashton Gate, but Skubala's hunt for attacking reinforcements doesn't appear to have halted just yet, as a fresh bid for a long-term target has once again been knocked back.

With Sinclair Armstrong, Harry Cornick, and Delano Burgzorg having already left the club this summer, plus with Anis Mehmeti's departure last January, attacking reinforcements ought to be a priority for Skubala this summer.

Greenwood and Wallace will both add another option for the Robins in the final third, and even with Tolaj's impending move, more work must be done in that area of the pitch.

After a 23-goal season in League One for Leyton Orient last year, former Southampton striker Dominic Ballard was made Bristol City's primary target to become Skubala's new star forward.

Ballard, 21, enjoyed an excellent year on a personal level despite Orient's struggles, and now could be on the move this summer, with Football League World having previously exclusively revealed that the East London outfit have set a £5 million price on his head.

The Robins have seen multiple bids rejected for the forward, and now, according to Alan Nixon's Patreon, they have seen a bid worth £4 million plus extras turned down, with their recent offer still falling short of Orient's valuation.

Having let Ethan Galbraith join Swansea City last summer for just £1.5 million, and seeing his recent £10 million move to Stoke City one year later, Richie Wellens' side are not looking to make a similar mistake again with Ballard.

Nixon also states that this recent bid likely won't be the last, with the Robins keen to land their man, despite the addition of Tolaj.

Bristol City and Skubala are not messing around this summer in completely revamping the squad at Ashton Gate, though their primary target, for now, continues to evade them.

Despite multiple knock-backs at this stage, Bristol City and Skubala will likely still be confident in their pursuit of Ballard and getting a deal over the line.

They will be well aware of Orient's £5 million asking price, and are merely testing the waters to see if a lower offer has the chance of being accepted, which they are continually finding out is not the case.

Whether they do reach an agreement remains to be seen, as this saga continues to rage on.
