Pompey and the Robins should be preparing to move for a Scotland international striker this summer amid Hibernian's enquiry

Scottish international striker Lyndon Dykes is still without a club with pre-season underway, and as the 30-year-old continues to weigh up his options, a new potential destination has emerged.

Lyndon Dykes, following the expiry of his short-term deal with Charlton Athletic, remains without a club ahead of the 2026/27 season, but you wouldn't expect that to be the case for too much longer.

The striker, who was a part of Steve Clarke's Scotland squad for the most recent World Cup, has spent time with the likes of Queens Park Rangers, Birmingham City, and most recently Charlton since moving to England from Livingston in the summer of 2020.

With 40 goals in just shy of 200 Championship appearances, and 37 goal contributions in 100 Scottish Premiership appearances, it was no surprise that Charlton offered him fresh terms to remain at The Valley this summer, but he has yet to sign.

Leicester City and Millwall were also both reportedly interested in a move, as now Scottish outfit Hibernian have made a fresh enquiry for the free agent, as FLW suggests two EFL clubs that ought to join the race for Dykes' signature this summer.

Bristol City have been one of the most active clubs in the EFL so far this summer, with seven new additions so far under new boss Michael Skubala, with the Robins showing few signs of slowing down.

Each of Sam Tickle, Sam Greenwood, Gibson Yah, Jed Wallace, Lisav Eissat, Bradley Collins, and Lorent Tolaj have all joined the club, with attacking reinforcements remaining a priority for the former Lincoln City boss.

Leyton Orient's Dom Ballard is still the subject of a pursuit from Bristol City, as the Robins look to replace the outgoing Delano Burgzorg, Harry Cornick, and Sinclair Armstrong.

With Tolaj now in the building, and Emil Riis still offering an option, Skubala's pursuit of Ballard indicates he isn't convinced by all of his options just yet, and should consider a move for Dykes this summer.

Dykes and Ballard are different types of strikers, so the Scot's addition would not be a like-for-like alternative, with the 30-year-old acting more as a target forward, capable of holding up attackers and bringing others into play.

Whilst Riis had a solid first year at Ashton Gate following his free transfer from Preston North End last summer, an alternative up top with a similar frame and playing style was lacking.

Dykes could provide an excellent alternative up top to Riis at Bristol City, and on a free transfer with ample Championship experience, Skubala would be remiss to not consider his addition.

Portsmouth were among the lowest scoring teams in the Championship last season, as John Mousinho knew his priority heading into the summer was to reinforce Pompey's attack.

Adrian Segecic finished with 11 goals in the league, including a hat-trick away to Stoke City on the penultimate game of the season, whilst Terry Devlin's five goals from right-back come next best in Portsmouth's squad.

Colby Bishop, who has been Pompey's star forward for the previous few years, could only manage three league goals, and with each of Jacob Brown, Gustavo Caballero, and Millenic Alli returning to their parent clubs from their loans, new blood was a necessity for Mousinho.

Now, Portsmouth have completed the addition of Serbian striker Marko Milovanovic from Spanish side Almeria for a fee which could reach around €5 million (£4.2 million), in a real statement of intent.

The 22-year-old will almost certainly be leading the line for Portsmouth next season, but with Bishop having been linked with a move to Sheffield Wednesday as of late, a strong alternative ought to be a priority at Fratton Park, and Dykes could be a perfect option.

With more Championship experience under his belt than almost anybody else in the current Portsmouth squad, his addition would be beneficial both on and off the pitch from a leadership perspective.
