Bristol City midfielder Jason Knight has attracted Premier League interest this summer.

Bristol City supporters must have concerns over the future of midfielder Jason Knight following the recent arrival of Adam Randell from Plymouth Argyle.

The Robins announced the signing of midfielder Adam Randell last week, with the 24-year-old having joined the club on a four-year deal for an undisclosed fee from the Pilgrims.

The arrival of Randell completed a good week for Bristol City, as the news came a day after it was confirmed that former Red Bull Salzburg and 1. FC Koln boss Gerhard Struber has been appointed to replace Liam Manning as manager at Ashton Gate.

However, while the addition of a player who showed that he is capable of impressing at Championship level despite being part of a relegated side is a positive, there may be some concerns among the supporters over whether he may have been brought in to replace Jason Knight, who has been linked with a move to Everton this summer.

Jason Knight has been linked with Everton - Bristol City must be fearing transfer raid

Knight was a standout player in the Bristol City side that reached the play-offs in the Championship under Manning last season, so it should perhaps not have come as a surprise when he was linked with a Premier League club last month.

TEAMtalk reported that Everton are looking to strengthen their midfield department this summer as a matter of priority, and are considering making a move for Knight, having scouted the Republic of Ireland international last season as he impressed in the second tier for his current club.

There is no doubt that selling Knight would be a major blow for the Robins, as not only would they be losing a hardworking midfielder who contributed three goals and six assists in the league last term, but they would also need to find someone with similar leadership qualities who could step up to replace him as captain.

Fortunately for Bristol City, the 24-year-old is under contract at Ashton Gate until the summer of 2027, so it would surely take a significant transfer fee for Everton to sign him ahead of their move to the Hill Dickinson Stadium, but he would still need to be suitably replaced to ensure that Gerhard Struber has enough quality at his disposal in the middle of the pitch next season.

Bristol City supporters will hope that Randell has been brought in to add further competition in midfield rather than replace Knight, but given the speculation that has already happened this summer, it would only make sense for there to be some concern.

David Moyes has a history of signing Championship talent, which should raise Bristol City fears further

Another reason why Bristol City supporters may be wary about whether Knight will still be at Ashton Gate during the 2025/26 season is that David Moyes has a history of signing players from the Championship.

The experienced Scotsman signed Tim Cahill from Millwall during his previous spell in charge of the Toffees, which proved to be an excellent piece of business, while he also brought Jarrod Bowen to West Ham United from Hull City, with the forward going on to score the winning goal against Fiorentina in the final of the UEFA Conference League in 2023.

It will be interesting to see where Knight's future lies as the summer transfer window develops, but the signing of Randell will have done nothing to ease the nerves of Bristol City fans who do not want to see one of their best players leave for the Premier League.
