Leicester City stepped up pre-season with a 2-1 win at Bristol Rovers in a two-hour friendly at the Memorial Stadium, as Kirsten Otchere and Nathan Opoku struck either side of Ellis Harrison’s equaliser.
LeicesterMercury.co.uk reports that Russell Martin again split the minutes between two XIs, the first group drawing 1-1 before the later team secured victory.
City flew out of the blocks. Wout Faes and Otchere combined, Hamza Choudhury’s run was tracked, and Otchere’s effort deflected over goalkeeper Brad Young for the opener.
Early in the second half-hour, Harrison levelled, having earlier hit the post, after a Faes challenge broke his way and he finished past Fran Vieites.
After a full change of XI, Leicester took control. Luke Southwood parried Sammy Braybrooke’s drive and Opoku converted from close range to restore the lead.
Braybrooke was the standout performer, with Oliver Skipp and Louis Page impressing in midfield. Bade Aluko is making a strong case as the club’s best right-back, with Jayden Joseph and Lorenz Hutchinson also catching the eye. Faes captained assuredly and Choudhury was tidy in advanced areas.
Two games in, mistakes are still creeping in, yet City have reacted well. The trip to Burton Albion on Saturday offers another chance to build 60 minutes before the strongest available XI, ahead of any arrivals, takes shape for the Spain double-header.
