Gary Speed, who died in 2011, won 85 caps for Wales and lifted the First Division title with Leeds in 1992 after beginning his career at Elland Road.

Former team-mate Chris Kamara also shared his condolences, remarking that Roger had died of a broken heart long ago.

The Football Association of Wales paid its respects, describing Roger as an ardent supporter of Welsh football and saying his passion would be remembered, while offering sympathy to his family and friends.

Leeds United Supporters Trust said it was deeply saddened, recalling a tour it gave Roger and Carol of murals honouring Gary a few years ago, which it found incredibly moving, and sent its thoughts to the family.
