Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has been rewarded with a huge honour following his heroics in the win over Crystal Palace.
Fernandes pulled all the strings as United came back from behind to beat Palace 2-1 at Selhurst and get back to winning ways.
Having gone for three Premier League matches without a victory, Ruben Amorim desperately needed to get three points on the board. The situation seemed to have worsened when Palace rightly took the lead after 36 minutes of action. Jean-Philippe Mateta was illegally brought down by Leny Yoro inside the box, earning the hosts a penalty.
Mateta made no mistake from the spot as he sent Senne Lammens the wrong way.
United came out guns blazing after the break and were instantly rewarded for their rejuvenated efforts. A brilliant Fernandes delivery was controlled by Joshua Zirkzee, who then smashed in home from an extremely tight angle to restore parity.
The Red Devils sustained the pressure and eventually went ahead just after the hour mark, with Fernandes playing a big role once again.
The Portugal international cleverly laid off the ball into the path of Mason Mount from a free-kick, inviting the England midfielder to fire a shot underneath the wall and into the back of the net.
Mount’s goal proved to be the decisive one.
While he didn’t get on the score sheet, there is no arguing that Fernandes was the most influential man on the pitch. Consequently, he has been named the Premier League Player of the Matchweek for Matchweek 13.
The Premier League have confirmed that Fernandes garnered 32% of the vote, narrowly beating Reece James (Chelsea), who managed 30%.
Other contestants were Phil Foden (16%), Malick Thiaw (7%), Enzo Le Fee (6%), Igor Thiago (5%), Emiliano Martinez (3%) and Kenny Tete (1%).
It’s the third time a United player has won the Premier League Player of the Matchweek prize this season.
Harry Maguire and Bryan Mbeumo won it on Matchday eight and Matchday nine respectively.
