Bruno Fernandes has been an omnipresent figure for Manchester United this season, but he continues to be linked with a move away from the Theatre of Dreams.

This season, Ruben Amorim has used the 31-year-old as part of a double pivot, alongside Casemiro, which has allowed new signing Matheus Cunha as well as Mason Mount to operate in the left-attacking midfield position.

Bruno Fernandes had previously excelled while operating higher up the pitch at Old Trafford, and recent reports have stated that the player is far from pleased with his change in position.

The United skipper was heavily linked with a move to the Middle East over the summer, but ended up staying. It has since been reported that he turned down a colossal offer to join Al-Hilal.

Bruno Fernandes remains vital to United’s plans

Bruno Fernandes has had to adapt his game to fit Amorim’s tactics this season, but he has still been decisive for United so far.

The former Sporting star has completed 32 successful long passes, with only Granit Xhaka registering more (34) among midfielders in the Premier League.

The Portuguese has scored two goals from seven Premier League games so far. Only Erling Haaland (7.71), Jean-Philippe Mateta (4.08) and Enzo Fernandez (3.75) have recorded a greater xG than Fernandes’ 3.7 in the league.

While Fernandes has once again been United’s talisman this season, that hasn’t stopped the rumour mill from spinning. Recent reports suggest that clubs from Saudi Arabia are preparing to prise him away in 2026.

The 31-year-old’s contract at Old Trafford runs until 2027, and he is among the club’s highest earners, which has only added fuel to the speculation. The player has now provided an update on the matter.

An impossible scenario

Speaking while on international duty, as cited by O Jogo, the club captain rubbished rumours of a possible move to the Middle East in 2026.

“That’s an impossible scenario to imagine. I have no idea if there’s any truth to it. I like to enjoy the moment, and the most important thing for me is to represent the national team, because it’s a source of enormous pride,” said Fernandes.

“I don’t know if I’ll play tomorrow, much less if I’ll play outside of Manchester in a year. It’s not something that worries me.

“I’m happy where I am, otherwise I wouldn’t have stayed. But it’s something that honestly doesn’t really bother me.”

The Peoples Person recently reported that Bayern Munich are keeping a close eye on the Portuguese midfielder and are considering a move in 2026.
