Spanish midfielder Lamine Fanne has left Luton Town after just 12 months with the club to join Italian side Venezia on a permanent deal.

It hasn't been the return to League One that Luton Town would have been hoping for, with the Hatters currently six points out of the top-six places, albeit they have a game in hand.

With Jack Wilshere at the helm, their form has been patchy at best, struggling to pick a settled side to fire them up the table.

The likes of Millenic Alli, Jerry Yates, Christ Makosso, Lasse Nordas and Lamine Fanne have all left the club this month, with the latter being the only permanent deal out of the lot.

Fanne joined Luton from Swedish side AIK in January 2025, where he made 12 Championship appearances as the club was relegated to League One.

This season, the Senegalese-born Spanish midfielder has made 21 third-tier appearances for the Hatters, but has since switched Luton for Venice on a four-and-a-half year deal, having fallen out of favour under Wilshere in recent months.

Football League World's Luton fan pundit, Simon, has shared their thoughts on Fanne's departure, and whether it was the correct decision to let the Spaniard leave this window.

Simon said: "It's obviously quite disappointing. He was well-liked by the fans here. He played quite a lot this season for us, so he clearly was an important player. I don't know if Jack Wilshere was his biggest fan."There were reports of attitude issues over time, but when we signed Fanne, I don't think he expected us to have dropped to League One, and I very much understand that if anybody doesn't want to be at Luton Town to fight, then good luck. Good luck with your next move. See you later."I don't know if he really suited the physicality of English football. I don't think he enjoyed League One. I don't know if he particularly enjoyed his time at Luton Town overall, but we move forward."

Despite their current position in the League One table, Luton will still fancy themselves for a spot in the top six this season, although if they are to achieve that target, their form must improve sooner rather than later.

Their most recent 1-0 win at home to Blackpool was just their second win in six, which, although it is not as bad as it could be, needs improving if they are to establish themselves as play-off contenders.

Wilshere replaced Matt Bloomfield in the Kenilworth Road dugout after a 2-0 loss away to Stevenage, with the former Arsenal and England midfielder undertaking his first job as head coach in senior first-team football.

Fanne's exit may not have a large effect in the grand scheme of things, with his exit seeming inevitable after he was substituted off at half-time in their 2-1 home win over Stevenage.

Now, Fanne swaps Luton for Venice to sign a long-term contract with the second-tier Italian outfit, in a move which likely suits all parties.
