Manchester United are preparing their final bid for Bryan Mbeumo after Brentford rejected their second proposal which was in excess of £60 million.
The road to landing the Cameroonian has been far from smooth, with INEOS seeing two bids get rejected, the first of which was worth an initial £45 million with another £10 million in add-ons.
The Bees are insistent on earning more than what Wolverhampton Wanderers got for Matheus Cunha, who signed for the Red Devils for £62.5 million, which was his release clause.
United’s second offer for the Brentford forward was worth an initial £55 million plus another £7.5 million in add-ons, but as per Sky Sports, the London club are holding out for more than £65 million.
They want most of the amount to be guaranteed and not as part of difficult add-ons. INEOS have their own valuations of the player, and will not exceed that amount.
“Man United remain hopeful of concluding a deal for Bryan Mbeumo despite comments from Brentford sporting director Phil Giles on Monday suggesting the player is happy to stay if nothing is agreed.
“United are working on a potential new proposal, with their most recent offer of £62.5m (made up of an initial £55m plus £7.5m in add-ons) deemed not enough for the London club.
“Brentford want in excess of £65m, with most if not all of that guaranteed. United will stay disciplined and not overpay, having their own estimations of the 25-year-old.”
Brentford sporting director Phil Giles had claimed on Monday that Bryan Mbeumo would stay put if United do not meet their valuations. This time, the Old Trafford are expected to offer £60 million up front plus add-ons.
But the 20-time English league champions are confident of winning the transfer battle due to the Cameroon international’s own insistence on moving to Old Trafford.
Despite Brentford’s best attempts at inciting a bidding war, the 25-year-old has stood firm in his wish to join the three-time Champions League winners.
“United are thought to be impressed with Mbeumo’s desire to join the club and personal terms are understood to be agreed in principle.”
Personal terms have also been agreed between the forward and United a while back. A medical is scheduled for the weekend. It remains to be seen if a deal can be agreed before then.
This is expected to be the final bid and as things stand, it is likely to be accepted. Brentford might use this and claim a public victory, while Ruben Amorim will be delighted to get his man before the start of pre-season.
