Juventus and Italy legend Gianluigi Buffon has called for supporters and journalists to stop comparing the feats of Juve’s two most recent coaches, Thiago Motta and Massimiliano Allegri, has claimed that Serie A is second only to the Premier League in terms of quality and believes that Atalanta’s success is ‘good for everyone’.
The former Azzurri no.1 gave an interview to La Stampa, published on Tuesday morning, during which he spoke about his former club and the success of the division as a whole.
Though Juventus remain unbeaten in Serie A under Thiago Motta, Buffon is not enjoying the comparisons between him and his predecessor, Allegri, as they are two coaches at completely different stages of their careers.
“Enough with the comparisons between Motta and Allegri, it’s out of line. One has won a lot, Thiago is just starting out. Anyone who compares them is driven by a desire to upset the club,” Buffon said.
He continued: “I have great respect for Thiago, and I’m very confident about what he’s building. When you change things so deeply, it takes time. Motta is meticulous and well-prepared, accustomed to certain levels as a coach.”

Buffon went on to speak about the success of Serie A as a division, and why clubs like Atalanta are the model to follow.
“Our football has changed. After the English Premier League, we are right behind. I think of a cultural revolution of many coached, now we enjoy watching Serie A matches.”
And, on Atalanta, he added: “They are a team that is good for everyone. I am not surprise, because you can’t improvise if you want to reach certain levels in football. The Percassi family has had a far-sighted project that has been going on for quite some time.”
