Bukayo Saka was on the receiving end of a poor tackle during Arsenal’s win over Ipswich Town on Sunday, sparking concerns he could have sustained a fresh injury.

The winger made his first start in the Premier League since December following surgery on his hamstring, which kept him sidelined for nearly four months.

Saka appears to have made a full recovery after starting both legs of their Champions League quarter-final win over Real Madrid, while he was also lively against the Tractor Boys at Portman Road.

His involvement was almost cut short, though, after Leif Davis took a shortcut through the England international. The full-back raked his opponent’s heel with a nasty challenge from behind, earning himself a red card in the 32nd minute.

Sake was able to play on but he was replaced by Ethan Nwaneri 12 minutes into the second half. Ice was applied to his Achilles while he sat on the bench and he was spotted limping to the team bus after the match. Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta, however, has allayed fans’ fears that his star player could face more time out after delivering a positive update.

“He was sore because of the tackle but it doesn’t look anything serious,” the Spaniard told BBC Match of the Day.

Although the Premier League title is virtually out of reach, Arsenal can ill afford to miss Saka for their upcoming meetings with PSG in the Champions League semi-finals.

The Gunners are now unbeaten in their last 11 matches in all competitions following this weekend’s convincing 4-0 win over Ipswich. Leandro Trossard grabbed a brace while Gabriel Martinelli and Nwaneri also got on the scoresheet.

“Our first 35 minutes were exceptional, we scored two and could have scored more but the sending off changed the game,” Arteta remarked.

“It was an opportunity to play some players who have not played so much so a lot of positives from this afternoon.

Arteta added that Trossard “looked very sharp” while scoring his sixth and seventh league goals of the campaign. “We know his quality, put him right, left or centre and he will deliver.”

The result denied Liverpool the chance to win the Premier League title at Leicester City, although it appears inevitable at this stage they will finish ahead of Arsenal in the table.

“All we can do is delay that moment and from our side to earn the right to finish as high as possible,” Arteta added.
