According to BuLi News, Alexis Claude-Maurice has been named FC Augsburg’s Bulinews Player of the Season, taking exactly five of 10 votes from a team of writers.
Augsburg finished ninth, their first top ten in over a decade and their best return since Markus Weinzierl’s first spell brought Europa League football.
Manuel Baum, who succeeded Weinzierl back then, returned after a turbulent start under Sandro Wagner and has now signed a permanent deal until the end of 2027/28.
Claude-Maurice was central to the resurgence, having placed behind Finn Dahmen in last season’s vote, and he comfortably beat the goalkeeper this time despite scoring four fewer than in his debut campaign. Augsburg might want to cash in on the 27-year-old this summer before his contract runs down at the end of next season.
He missed the first two games with an ankle injury and ended the Hinrunde without a goal or assist. After the winter break he scored in back-to-back draws against Union Berlin and Freiburg, and he opened the scoring four times, including at Hoffenheim where he missed a potential match-winning penalty.
He finished with five goals, all at the WWK Arena, where Augsburg have only lost to Stuttgart since matchday nine. He also recorded four assists in wins over eventually relegated St. Pauli and Wolfsburg.
Fabian Rieder claimed two votes to finish second. The remaining votes went to Dahmen, German-American Noahkai Banks and Michael Gregoritsch, who was joint top-scorer on six with Rieder and youngster Anton Kade despite only re-joining in winter.
