Yan Diomande became the tenth Bundesliga player to score in the 35th edition of the African Cup of Nations (AFCON). The RB Leipzig winger got the second goal in Côte d'Ivoire’s 3-0 win over Burkina Faso in the Round of 16. Bazoumana Touré scored off the bench once again to seal the win.

The three-time winners took the lead with Amad Diallo’s third goal of the competition in the 20th minute. The Manchester United player then assisted Diomande’s goal before the half-time break. The sought-after 19-year-old scored with a measured strike in a crowded box.

Burkina Faso, who had Bayer Leverkusen’s Edmond Tapsoba and SC Freiburg’s Cyriaque Irié on the starting lineup, were second best in almost every category against one of the tournament favorites. And, Emerse Faé’s side celebrated the victory with Touré scoring the third in the 87th minute.

The Hoffenheim attacker netted a solo goal with no defender tracking his run, which was started deep from his own half. Touré also scored the winner for Côte d'Ivoire in his AFCON debut against Gabon in the group stage.

The defending champions will play against the record holders Egypt in the last quarter-final matchup on Saturday. The seven-time winners knocked out Benin after extra-time to seal their spot. The last eight will start on Friday with Nicolas Jackson’s Senegal locking horns with Mali, who are yet to win a game in normal time.

Later on Friday, three Bundesliga players will be in action as Cameroon hope to ruin Morocco’s home tournament. Algeria, who have four Bundesliga-based players in their squad, will face the free-scoring Nigeria earlier on Saturday.
