In a recent report, journalist Fraser Fletcher stated that Union Berlin defender Danilho Doekhi is keen on joining Leeds United. It has been claimed that the Whites are willing to wait for the German club to reduce their asking price for their prized asset.

Doekhi is having an impressive campaign in the Bundesliga as he has put in a series of solid performances at the heart of the Union Berlin backline. The Dutch talent has played in 18 matches for the German outfit this season, scoring six goals in multiple competitions.

The 27-year-old has been a rock at the back and has done well to make 30 tackles, 18 blocks, 19 interceptions and 84 clearances in the Bundesliga. He has even distributed possession relatively well from inside his half, based on his pass completion rate of 75.4% in the German first division (stats via fbref.com).

His current contract at Union Berlin will run out at the end of this campaign. Hence, Leeds could potentially sign him on a cut-price deal this month or on a free transfer next summer.

Should Leeds United Boss Daniel Farke Get Doekhi On Board?

Doekhi is a good tackler of the ball and can scan the danger well to secure possession back for his team inside his half. He usually clears the danger when the opposition are on the front foot. Standing at 1.90m, Doekhi can use his strong frame to win a few 50-50 aerial duels for his side.

However, there are some concerns over whether the Dutch defensive ace can cope with the high intensity of the Premier League if Leeds manage to bring him on board in this winter transfer period or at the end of this campaign.

We can expect Doekhi to add more bite and steel to Daniel Farke’s defence. He is more than capable of securing regular first-team football at Elland Road.

At 27, Doekhi has his peak years ahead of him, which makes him a worthy target for the Yorkshire club to consider this winter or at the end of this campaign. However, Farke has to give him some time to settle into life in England before he can unlock the best out of the player at Leeds.
