Jonathan Tah’s move to FC Barcelona is now under threat. Although the club has identified the 29-year-old Bayer Leverkusen centre-back as a priority signing for the summer and has a verbal agreement in place, several rivals are attempting to hijack the deal.
Tah’s contract at Leverkusen expires on 30 June, meaning he would arrive on a free transfer, but Barcelona’s ongoing Financial Fair Play issues have prevented them from finalising the deal.
One of those looking to take advantage of the delay is none other than Tah’s current manager, Xabi Alonso.
The Spanish coach, who is set to replace Carlo Ancelotti at Real Madrid, wants to take the German defender with him to the Santiago Bernabeu, reports Mundo Deportivo.
Despite the growing interest from Real Madrid, the report states that Tah has not signed with any club and still prioritises a move to Barcelona.

However, the Bundesliga defender is growing impatient due to the lack of assurances from the Catalan club, who are struggling to confirm the deal because of its financial constraints.
The fitness problems faced by the likes of Antonio Rudiger, David Alaba, and Eder Militao have put Real Madrid on alert as they look for defensive signings.
Alonso, who is the favourite to take over from Ancelotti at the end of the season, views Tah as a key reinforcement for the upcoming season at Real Madrid.
Apart from them, Manchester United have also entered the race, as have Bayern Munich, who have renewed their interest after failing to sign the defender last summer.
Barcelona have been working on a move for Tah for a long time now and as such it does not come as a surprise to see the player still leaning towards a move to Catalonia.
But the club will need to take a concrete step towards securing his signing at the earliest, especially with Alonso now pushing for a potential reunion at Real Madrid.
