Bundesliga Player of the Week | Round 18: Michael Olise

With the need to rotate following three games in eight days, Bayern Munich’s English-born French winger Michael Olise found himself having to take his turn on Vincent Kompany’s bench for the record champions’ Matchday 18 trip to RB Leipzig.

However, with the score finely poised at 1-1, it did not take long for Kompany to turn to the Frenchman in an attempt to find a winner. After last weekend’s demolition job of Wolfsburg, in which Olise was Man of the Match, he was the obvious choice to replace Lennart Karl on the right wing. What followed was simply a masterclass from Olise.

Nine minutes after coming on, he picked the ball up on the right wing, beat his marker with ease, and picked out Harry Kane with a precise cross. The England captain made the most of the good work from Olise with a tidy finish.

In the 82nd minute, with the game not yet sealed for the visitors, they made sure of the points when Olise dropped the ball perfectly onto the forehead of Jonathan Tah from a corner to put the game out of sight for the hosts.

Less than three minutes later, Olise had his hat-trick of assists when he again found himself attacking David Raum. A brilliant late run into the box from Aleksander Pavlović allowed Olise to wrong-foot Raum, and in the process, giving Pavlović the simplest of tasks.

With the points wrapped up, it was Olise’s turn to provide the finish when Luis Díaz broke down the left. The ball eventually rolled to the feet of the Frenchman who picked out the top corner with a sublime finish.

Olise’s quality was always clear to see for Premier League viewers, but since his move to Bayern he has quite simply become one of the world’s best wingers. His three assists and one goal this weekend puts him further clear at the top of the Bundesliga assist charts and now joint second in the scoring charts, only behind teammate Kane.
