Bayern Munich make its return to Bundesliga action following the international break, with a meeting with Hamburg, a team Uli Hoeneß once was worried about – but today that couldn’t be further from what happened on the pitch.
If you wanted a close affair with the team meeting for the first time in seven years. You didn’t get that.
Within three minutes, HSV were 1-0 down when Serge Gnabry opened the scoring. Only six minutes later, Aleksandar Pavlovic would make it 2-0 after a tidy one-two with Harry Kane.
Hamburg were unable to get out of their own half for much of the first 45 minutes, and things continued to get worse when Harry Kane converted a penalty which was awarded following an Aboubaka Soumahoro handball. Then, not long after it was 3-0, it would soon be 4-0 when Luis Diaz continued his hot start to life in the Bundesliga.
HSV were more lively in the opening period of the second half, but the damage was already done. In the 62nd minute, Kane would make it 5-0. Then, basically nothing happened after that.
The win for Bayern means they are now the only Bundesliga side to maintain a 100% record and have scored a total of 14 goals in three games, showcasing the quality of their front four of Kane, Diaz, Gnabry and Michael Olise.
However, if we are being honest, Bayern have yet to face a proper challenge, on paper, Leipzig were meant to be that, but they looked like a second division side in the opening game of the season. Augsburg’s first half performance meant Bayern won the game then and held on for the second 45, then today, Hamburg were Hamburg.
In midweek, Bayern face Chelsea, then next weekend they play Hoffenheim, this will be a key indicator of how good this Bayern side is, especially when it comes to juggling two games a week.
HSV continue their horrible form in Munich. The last time they won away at the Allianz was in 2007 when Ottmar Hitzfeld was managing Bayern, Rafael van der Vaart and Paolo Guerrero (the Peruvian) scored the two goals, and Hasan Salihamidzic was still a player.
After their performance in the Hamburg derby, you would expect a better performance; however, they were unable to offer that.
The opening three games have been an emotion-filled affair, but they have also proven to be a reality check, and if HSV want to stay up, they will need to drastically improve, and importantly, start scoring.

The Englishman did his job, bagged himself a brace, whilst also providing an assist for Pavlovic. Kane’s tally for the season is now at five goals and three assists in three games. This season also looks as if Kane has adapted his game more into a more creative player, which he can do now with a player as direct as Luiz Diaz alongside him, as well as the absence of Jamal Musiala.
