According to reports in Germany, Bundesliga outfit SC Freiburg are attempting to lure out-of-favour Italy forward Wilfried Gnonto away from Leeds United and the Premier League ahead of the summer transfer window.
Gnonto has been based in England since the summer of 2022, joining Leeds from FC Zurich on a five-year contract.
Gnonto has scored two goals and provided seven assists from 45 Premier League appearances since then, on top of 17 goals and eight assists from 79 outings in the Championship.
His early promise earned him a call-up to the Italy national team under Roberto Mancini back in 2022. He went on to make 13 international appearances between 2022 and 2023, and became the youngest ever player to score for the Azzurri at the age of 18 years and 222 days in a 5-2 Nations League defeat against Germany.

Gnonto has not featured for Italy over the last three years though.
Now, according to reports from Florian Plettenberg and Sky Sport DE, Bundesliga side Freiburg are hoping to bring Gnonto to Germany this summer.
Saturday’s report claims that Leeds are open to a sale, or potentially a loan with an obligation to buy. Sky claims that it is not a straight-forward operation, but Freiburg are pushing hard in an attempt to secure the 22-year-old’s services.
