Manchester City could turn their attentions to the Bundesliga when it comes to strengthening the wide attacking roles in the squad for the 2026-27 season.
It is set to be a busy summer at the Etihad Stadium as club executives, led by sporting director Hugo Viana, navigate life beyond Pep Guardiola, who has departed his role as Manchester City manager after an illustrious decade in England’s north-west.
Enzo Maresca is understood to have agreed a three year deal to replace Guardiola in principle as talks progress between the 46-year-old Italian and City bosses, who have identified the former Chelsea manager as the ideal candidate to succeed Guardiola.

An official confirmation of Marescs’s appointment is expected later this week, with the former Manchester City EDS and first-team assistant coach in line for talks with Jack Grealish to revive the Englishman’s career at the Etihad Stadium – following Guardiola’s exit.
City are in the market for a world-class midfielder and are prioritising a swoop for Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson after club sources clarified this week that the Blues have no interest in Chelsea’s Enzo Fernandez.
Speaking to AceOdds.com, transfer insider Gianluca Di Marzio has shone light on Manchester City’s transfer activity in the build-up to the summer market, with a particular focus on the wide attacking positions.
One name consistently linked with interest from Europe’s biggest clubs including City is Bournemouth’s Eli Junior Kroupi. “He’s a super, super player. I know, for example, that Enzo Maresca likes him a lot,” says Di Marzio.
“I don’t know if they (Manchester City) will try to get him this season, but they will for sure try to sign one offensive winger and one right back.
“I think that the first choice for City is not Kroupi, but it’s Yan Diomande of Leipzig. I think that he could be the first choice, for the offensive winger position.”

A new right-back could also be on the agenda as Viana progresses his remake of the first-team ranks, although Matheus Nunes’ exceptional displays in the position last season could see him retain his spot as first-choice right-back.
On the right-back role, Di Marzio added: “I know that (Marco) Palestra of Atalanta, who is playing with Cagliari on loan, is a player that they like. But they have to know and understand if, tactically, he can play right back for City because in Italy, we play in a different way.
“We play with five players in midfield, and he’s playing right back, and so they have to understand if he can play in a defensive way, but they are scouting him.”
