Burnley or Leeds set for unwanted record

Gambar artikel:Burnley or Leeds set for unwanted record

Burnley remain in the hunt for the Championship title, but their fate is out of their hands as they rely on Leeds United slipping up.

The Clarets face a tough test at Turf Moor, with Millwall - still chasing a play-off spot - making the long trip from south London to Lancashire.

Since Alex Neil took charge from Neil Harris around the new year, the Lions have enjoyed a strong run of form and are now just outside the top six, making this a potentially tricky fixture for the Clarets.

Meanwhile, Daniel Farke’s side travel to relegation-threatened Plymouth Argyle, who are clinging to slim hopes of survival and will be desperate to upset the league leaders.

Both Burnley and Leeds are tied on 97 points, but it’s the Whites who top the table on goal difference. This means the Clarets must better Leeds’ result to clinch the title.

Whatever happens, one team will end the season with a bittersweet record: the highest-ever points total in a Championship season without winning the title.

Ipswich Town currently hold that unwanted honour after finishing with 96 points last year - only for Leicester to finish just ahead.
