Burnley officially suffered relegation to the Championship with a 1-0 loss to Man City
Burnley officially suffered relegation from the Premier League with a 1-0 loss to Manchester City on Wednesday night.
A fifth-minute goal from Erling Haaland sealed all three points for Pep Guardiola’s side, moving them back into top spot in the top flight table.
The writing had been on the wall for a number of weeks for the Clarets, who have had their place in the bottom three confirmed with four games still to play.
They will join Wolves in dropping down to the Championship for next season, with the final place to be decided between Tottenham Hotspur, West Ham and Nottingham Forest.
Scott Parker guided Burnley to automatic promotion last year, but has been unable to keep the club in the top flight beyond one campaign.
Chairman Alan Pace will be hoping that the East Lancashire outfit can compete for promotion again next season, but it remains to be seen whether Parker will be in the dugout for the challenge.

It has been reported by Sky Sports that Burnley are set for talks with Parker in the coming days following their relegation to the Championship.
The 45-year-old has a contract with the Clarets until June 2027, but it is unclear whether he will lead the club back into their newest second tier campaign.
It’s believed that talks will be held now that Burnley have officially been relegated, although it has been clear for quite some time that they were not going to survive in the top flight.
Parker made it clear following the loss to Man City that his focus right now is on the final four games of the Premier League campaign.
The former Fulham boss revealed that there will be talks over his future, but could not confirm whether he will remain in charge.
said Parker.
“Discussions where we go in the future, and what we need to do as a football club, will take place in due course.”
Parker took over at Burnley in the summer of 2024 following their relegation from the Premier League, replacing Vincent Kompany after his move to Bayern Munich.

The Clarets finished 19th in their previous top flight campaign, but that did not deter the German giants from poaching the Belgian, who has now led them to the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League.
Parker’s side are now 19th again, although the gap to Wolves in 20th is only three points and the Lancashire outfit have played a game more, meaning there is a distinct possibility that they could finish bottom of the entire pile.
Provided Parker’s relationship with the players is still intact, then there’s no reason why he shouldn’t be kept on for next season.
While this has been a disappointing year, they have held onto him this long and surely that is with one eye on competing in the Championship.
The 45-year-old has proven that he knows what it takes to gain promotion, previously guiding all of Burnley, Fulham and Bournemouth to the top flight.
Parker still has one more year on his contract, and that should be honoured by giving him next season, and then the club can take stock on whether he’s the man to bring the side forward.
