Burnley should be targeting a Manchester City winger as a replacement for the outgoing Loum Tchaouna

Upon their return to the Championship, Burnley will be looking to do what they have done the last few times they were in the division - winning promotion. With a new permanent boss at the helm, incomings to Turf Moor must surely be on the horizon sooner rather than later.

Indeed, Burnley are no strangers to the Championship, with this upcoming campaign being the third time since 2016 that they have competed in England's second tier.

Now, with Belgian boss Nicky Hayen replacing Scott Parker at the helm in Lancashire, the former Genk boss will be keen to make some key additions to his squad, especially with the recent exits from the club.

Each of Martin Dubravka, Quilindschy Hartman, Jaidon Anthony, Maxime Esteve, and Loum Tchaouna has left Turf Moor for pastures new this summer following relegation.

Tchaouna joins Coventry City for £20 million, and although he struggled to consistently show his class during his time with Burnley, he will leave a big gap on the right flank, something which Hayen should address with a swoop for a Manchester City sensation.

With Tchaouna gone, Burnley do have some natural replacements in the squad, though what Hayen's plans for each of them are remains to be seen.

Each of Marcus Edwards, Jacob Bruun Larsen, Luca Koleosho, and Jaydon Banel is capable of playing out wide, and the Belgian head coach will likely be taking a close look at each of them ahead of the new season.

However, incomings in wide areas should not be ruled out at Turf Moor, as Manchester City's promising young winger Ryan McAidoo ought to be considered as a potential option.

McAidoo, 18, initially spent time in the youth system of Colchester United and Chelsea before joining Man City in the summer of 2024, where he has been prolific at youth levels since.

A tricky left-footed winger, capable of playing off either flank but best on the right where he can cut in his preferred foot, McAidoo has scored 16 and assisted six in 32 appearances for City's Under-18 side, and has scored eight goals and assisted eight in 27 games for the Under-21 side.

Eligible to represent either Ghana or England, McAidoo has been a regular for the latter's youth sides, and his development and performances have earned him two first-team appearances already, netting in City's 10-1 victory over Exeter City in the FA Cup in January 2026.

With 32 chances created, 36 successful dribbles, and 28 shots in just 14 games in the Premier League 2 last season, as per FotMob, McAidoo is an incredible attacking threat, capable of both creating and scoring goals from out wide, with his direct nature proving to be a nightmare for defenders.

Although the Championship would be a big jump at his age, especially physically, there is every reason to believe he could be a success at that level already, and in a team expected to be on the right end of results more often than not in Burnley, he could thrive.

The Clarets already have a strong relationship with City over the years, with each of James Trafford, Arijanet Muric, Kyle Walker, Taylor Harwood-Bellis, and CJ Egan-Riley having transferred between the two clubs over recent years.

City likely have no intention of letting McAidoo leave on a permanent basis anytime soon, with a loan swoop being the most likely avenue for either club to explore this summer.

It would be a risk to throw him in at the deep end, but with competition surrounding him and every reason to believe he can already be a success despite his age, Burnley should consider a move for the youngster, who has the potential to fire them back to the top flight following the departure of Tchaouna.

Following his return to the United Kingdom, Hayen will be keen to stamp his authority on the Burnley squad.

Nobody has yet to come through the doors at Turf Moor either before or after the Belgian's appointment as yet, and Clarets fans will be keen to see that change sooner rather than later.

With parachute payments aplenty, and with the incoming fees of Tchaouna and Anthony helping to mitigate the loss of Premier League revenue, Burnley will not struggle to spend this summer.
