Burnley FC have been linked to Charlton Athletic's Lyndon Dykes but one reaction has been to dismiss the link as a part of 'silly season'.
Burnley have been linked with a move for Lyndon Dykes, with the striker out of contract at Charlton Athletic this summer having scored or assisted six goals after joining in January.
Lydon Dykes started the season with Birmingham City and scored twice in 23 matches, but Charlton Athletic brought him in to end the season with them instead. The Scot scored three and assisted three in his 20 appearances.
Dykes has spent most of his career in England with QPR, with the centre-forward scoring 40 and assisting 15 in 197 games in the Championship across the three clubs he has appeared for. In his best season during 2020/21, Dykes scored 12 and assisted five for QPR.
Millwall and Leicester City have been linked to Dykes but more information has come to light as shared by TEAMtalk. They state that Burnley, Middlesbrough, Bristol City. and Cardiff City are also keen on Dykes on a free transfer.

FLW’s Burnley fan pundit Josh Lucas was asked for his thoughts on the fact Burnley are weighing up a move to sign Charlton striker Lyndon Dykes. We asked if he would welcome him in the summer as part of their squad.
He responded: "I'll be straight up, I don't think this is for us.
"I've said it before, I think this is a silly rumour. One of those silly rumours we always get.
"Obviously, we know he's an experienced Championship striker. I don't think he'd be welcomed anywhere until he's been and proven himself.
"But I do hope it's not true. It's silly season.
"We know he can score goals in the Championship. But when you're pushing for play-offs at a minimum, and probably an automatic promotion spot, there are better players you can get."

Burnley signing Dykes on a free transfer would be a move with both obvious benefits in some ways but clear drawbacks in others. On the positive side, his experience could prove to be valuable in a promotion push. Dykes has played extensively in the Championship, understands the physical demands of the division and is now at an age where he should bring leadership qualities.
The other side of this is that he has the work ethic and willingness to do the less glamorous aspects of centre-forward play. He loves a physical battle with the opposition's centre-backs. As a free agent signing from Charlton, he would also represent a low-risk addition financially.
However, there are legitimate concerns over whether he possesses the quality to lead the line for a team targeting automatic promotion. His goalscoring record has rarely been prolific at Championship level, and Burnley would likely require more reliable sources of goals if they are to bounce back at the first attempt.
That said, if Dykes is viewed as a backup striker rather than a guaranteed starter, the move becomes easier to justify. He could provide depth, a different tactical option due to his sheer size, and experienced cover during a long campaign. Ultimately, his suitability depends largely on the role Burnley envisage for him rather than his ability alone.
