Alexander Isak could make his Liverpool debut after his British record £125million move from Newcastle.

A stunning free-kick from Dominik Szoboszlai secured victory over title rivals Arsenal last time out and the reigning Premier League champions are heavy favourites to overcome newly-promoted Burnley.

However, Liverpool will have to guard against complacency as Burnley ran Manchester United close almost a fortnight ago as a 97th minute Bruno Fernandes penalty denied them a point at Old Trafford.

Burnley vs Liverpool is scheduled for a 2pm BST kick-off on Sunday, September 14, 2025.

The match will take place at Turf Moor.

Scott Parker will hope his international stars return from representing their respective nations unscathed as a fully fit squad with everyone performing at the best is key to taking points off the league leaders.

Experienced defender Kyle Walker should be fresh having not been named in the England squad for the World Cup double-header against Andorra and Serbia. Lyle Foster and Jaidon Anthony will hope their goals against Man United earn them another start.

Zeki Amdouni is a long-term absentee for Burnley, but Jordan Beyer and Connor Roberts could be available for selection, while Florentino Luis is in line to make is debut.

Isak took part in his first Liverpool training session on Wednesday and is in contention to make his debut at Turf Moor. Whether that comes as a starter or from the bench remains to be seen.

The striker is short of match practice after missing Newcastle’s entire pre-season and the opening three Premier League games of the campaign. He did play the final 18 minutes for Sweden against Kosovo on Monday to build up his fitness.

Elsewhere, Jeremie Frimpong is back Liverpool after missing wins over Newcastle and Arsenal through injury. Ibrahima Konate is fit despite limping off against the Gunners but Curtis Jones will miss out.

Burnley vs Liverpool prediction

Liverpool are the top scorers in the division this season, and that is without being able to call upon Isak so far. The good news for Burnley is the Swede is unlikely to be firing on all cylinders given his lack of game time.

The bad news for the hosts is the likes of Mohamed Salah, Hugo Ekitike and Cody Gakpo will be keen to get amongst the goals after being kept quiet by Arsenal last time out.

If Burnley can catch the Reds in a post-international break slump then a result is possible, but it’s hard to see past a comfortable win for the reigning Premier League champions.
