Liverpool are back on Premier League duty on Sunday when they visit Turf Moor to face newly promoted Burnley.

This weekend’s visitors narrowly edged out Arsenal in their most recent outing before the international break, while the hosts came up short against Manchester United.

Liverpool preview

Liverpool have been unconvincing across their opening three matches, but they collected maximum points.

The defending champions needed late goals to see off Bournemouth and Newcastle United in the opening two fixtures.

They bagged another late winner against Arsenal courtesy of Dominik Szoboszlai last time out.

Liverpool are two points ahead of Chelsea at the top of the Premier League table, but undoubtedly still have gears to find if they are to retain their crown.

Having beaten their next opponents in five consecutive matches ahead of Sunday’s game, Liverpool will be confident of getting the better of Burnley once again.

With their Champions League opener against Atletico Madrid to come three days later, a win this weekend would be the ideal tone-setter before their first European foray of the campaign.

Burnley preview

With games against three of the traditional top six teams in their first four outings, Burnley have been given a baptism of fire on their return to the Premier League.

The Clarets got things underway with a 3-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur before seeing off fellow newcomers Sunderland in their first home outing.

Scott Parker’s men gave a good account of themselves in last month’s 3-2 defeat to United, where they came from behind twice and looked set to claim a point.

However, Jaidon Anthony gave away a late penalty, which Bruno Fernandes converted in second-half stoppage time to decide the game.

Burnley have conceded the opener in six of their last eight outings, which does not bode well against a Liverpool side that has scored first in six consecutive matches.

Team news

Jeremie Frimpong, Calum Scanlon and Stefan Bajcetic are nursing hamstring issues and are huge doubts to feature here.

Luke Chambers is also unavailable for the away side due to a back injury he sustained during his loan spell at Wigan Athletic.

British record signing Alexander Isak is set to make his Liverpool debut. Hugo Ekitike is expected to retain his place.

Burnley’s Zeke Amdouni is sidelined with a knee injury that has kept him out of action since the middle of June.

Jordan Beyer (hamstring) and Connor Roberts (groin) will not play for the hosts alongside Hjalmar Ekdal after he was forced off with an injury in Sweden’s 2-0 defeat to Kosovo.

Burnley Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Dubravka; Hartman, Esteve, Worrall, Walker; Cullen, Ugochukwu; Anthony, Mejbri, Tchaouna; Foster.

Liverpool Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Alisson; Szoboszlai, Konate, Van Dijk, Kerkez; Gravenberch, Mac Allister; Salah, Wirtz, Gakpo; Ekitike.
