AC Milan strode to an impressive 3-1 victory on Tuesday night and Real Madrid icon Emilio Butragueno has admitted Los Blancos were not expecting it.
Some fixtures in football will decide the fate of a manager, and failing to get a result against Real Madrid probably would not have affected Paulo Fonseca’s position drastically. However, a result of the opposite direction could.
A dominant 3-1 win, where Milan looked dominant then added confidence to the manager, and several reports have suggested that the Rossoneri once again have a chance to restart due to the Portuguese’s bravery.
It is a story similar to the win against Inter, the head coach makes bold decisions, and he is rewarded for it. However, the squad must continue on this path, empowered by the result, rather than becoming complacent and falling away.
Today, Butragueno – who is now a director at Real – stated that the result was not expected when speaking to Tribal Football (via Milan News).
“The match, which obviously ended in a bad result, was not what we expected. We know we have to be solid, but they took advantage of their chances. It was a very negative result. Madrid always want to win and it was not possible. The way out is to work very hard and move forward.”
