BVB host AS Roma in their season opener | OneFootball

The match against AS Roma takes on a special significance as Samuele Inacio, Luca Reggiani and Filippo Mane are three Italians in the BVB squad who will be facing a club from their home country. Roma finished third in Serie A last season, thereby securing their place in the UEFA Champions League. It will also be a reunion with a familiar face as former Borussia player Donyell Malen returns to Strobelallee wearing the AS Roma shirt.

The season opener is part of the pre-season preparations, which the first-team players will begin as early as 12 July with performance diagnostics. Two days later, on 14 July, Niko Kovac’s coaching team will select a squad to take to the pitch for the first time. The World Cup participants will be given an extended break after the tournament and will therefore join the squad later.

Just one week after the clash with AS Roma, the first competitive match is already on the schedule when Borussia Dortmund, as runners-up, will face double winners FC Bayern Munich at home in the Super Cup on 22 August.
