Caballero returns early and could boost Santos against Botafogo | OneFootball

Caballero has reported back to Santos a day early, trained with the group on Monday, and could be involved against Botafogo this week.

According to Diario Do Peixe, the Paraguayan forward was due to return on Tuesday but arrived at CT Rei Pelé on Monday 13. The match is on Thursday 16 at Nilton Santos, kick-off 19:30, in the 19th round of the Brasileirão.

At the World Cup, he was on Paraguay's bench in the group stage, then made his debut as a second-half substitute in the dramatic progression past Germany in the second phase. He also came on in the last-16 defeat to France.

With a transfer ban in place, Santos view him as an internal solution. Earlier this year he was loaned to Portsmouth in the Championship, scoring one goal in 12 matches, a deal that ended on Tuesday 30.

Caballero is under contract with Santos until 23 July 2027. Signed last July, he featured sparingly, recording 12 league appearances with one goal and one assist last season.

This year he played in the opening matches of the Paulista and Série A before moving to the English second tier. He joined from Nacional in Paraguay, amid interest from Vitória de Guimarães, Paris FC and Vasco, with his wish to play alongside Neymar influential.

Born in San Lorenzo, Paraguay, he turns 25 in September. His career began at Deportivo Capiatá, then Sportivo Ameliano, before Nacional, and he appeared for Paraguay Under-23s in a friendly last year.
